POLICIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
Family Responsibilities & Expectations
This is Our Place - Treasure it, Care for it, Protect it for our descendants.

Where extra cleaning or gardening is needed, it is your responsibility to make that contribution. Please top up cleaning materials, gladwrap, tinfoil, toilet paper, rat poison, weed spray - & PLEASE don’t leave BBQ gas or mower petrol can empty!)

If you discover anything broken during your stay; blocked toilets or drains, broken appliances, blocked drains, broken windows, blown light bulbs or electricity circuits ....it is your responsibility to make sure it is fixed or replaced before you depart. Please telephone the 'property coordinator'/'maintenance officer' if you need help to fix the problem & before booking any tradesmen.

CARE FOR OUR WIDER ENVIRONMENT: Please be familiar with the regulations (see beach signage on the reserve) & ensure you inform guests of our responsibility to observe restrictions.
-
RESPECT FOR OUR COMMUNITY: Remember, you represent the TH Hayes family in the eyes of our community and any guests staying at our place. Ensure good communication & cooperative relationships with others using the property so decisions & generally accepted practices are shared & understood. You are responsible for the cooperation with family expectations of your friends on the property; this includes negotiating with others sharing the property, and any arrangements around late-night gatherings
-
MAKE SURE THE PADDOCK IS A SAFE FAMILY ENVIRONMENT: careful use of vehicles, showing consideration for others & not using language that might be considered offensive by some

Please do not undertake any projects of this nature without an explicit discussion with the Maintenance Officer.
Our Expectations of Guests using the THHayes Property
Please understand that this property is a treasured family place and not a serviced motel. We ask those who stay on the property to honour our ancestors, family members and the trust we place in those we share it with as you enjoy your stay.
As guests at our special family place we request the following:
-
RESPECT FOR OUR COMMUNITY: respect for and protection of the TH Hayes Family Estate at Tauranga Bay as our family heritage
-
MAKE SURE THE PADDOCK IS A SAFE FAMILY ENVIRONMENT: careful use of vehicles, showing consideration for others when playing loud music and not using language that might be considered offensive by some
-
CONSERVATION OF WATER, ESPECIALLY OVER THE SUMMER PERIOD. The water catchment and storage system is interdependent between properties. Please DO NOT MAKE ANY ADJUSTMENTS without an explicit discussion with the maintenance officer.
-
FIRES: No fires, no fireworks & no fish smokers particularly during the summer TOTAL FIRE BAN season
-
ENSURE RESPONSIBLE USE OF THE DINGHY/KAYAKS: these are available for use by family members renting Grandpa’s house, and can be used by others on request only. It is your responsibility to ensure they are left secured and above the high tide line at all times
-
USE OF THE GARAGE: Those staying in the garage are entitled to exclusive use of those facilities; the fridge, oven and power points, and unrestricted front doorway access
-
KEEP GATES CLOSED; Gates, especially the beach and road access, must be kept closed to reinforce that the paddock and hill are private property; and to keep small children safe.
-
MOWING: The paddock and house lawns are mown regularly by contractors. If they arrive while you are staying, please move cars and other paraphernalia out of their way.
-
RUBBISH: Please take all your rubbish away with you - there are rubbish transfer stations next to the Game Fish Club at Whangaroa, and at the White Hills between Kaeo and Kerikeri. There is no charge for sorted recycling. General rubbish needs to be stored in a BLUE prepaid rubbish bag that you can purchase at the Kaeo Four Square.
ENDANGERED AND NESTING BIRDS
The TH Hayes family has a commitment to ensuring that all visitors are aware of the presence of endangered and nesting birds on the sandspit and beach, and also in the paddock and estuary in front of the houses. The beaches and sandspit at Tauranga Bay are among the few places where Dotterels are known to breed. They forage along the shoreline and in the paddock, and until the chicks are fledged they have little protection from natural predators, much less dogs, cats, tractors, motorbikes, quad bikes or 4WD vehicles.
PLEASE NOTE:
- The District Council and DOC requirement is for all DOGS on the sandspit and beach to be on a leash
- Stoat, rat and cat traps are set and maintained by the family, the local community association and the Mahinepua Radar Hill Landcare group - If you have children or a dog, BE AWARE there may be toxins in bait stations
- Visitors should be careful at all times not to leave food scraps that could attract vermin
- The beach/sandspit is a VEHICLE EXCLUSION ZONE, except for launching boats or for mobility card holders – maximum speed for those vehicles is 15kph
WATER & POWER SYSTEMS
Water is turned on at the BLACK TANK for Grandpa's, Ida's, the garage (including toilet), and utility shed
The utility shed has an inside tap to release water for the outside trough - this is to be turned off at departure
Water for the garage outside tap is from the old orange tank
Please DO NOT MAKE ANY ADJUSTMENTS without an explicit discussion with the maintenance officer.
